I've
decided to dedicate the next few blogs that I write (because Rebecca and I
alternate days) to a little "show and tell" if you will.
In fact, a
gal by the name of Barb Beneteau inspired me to do this.
Barb asked
what we do after 7am.
So, Barb,
to you and all the other inquiring minds out there, I will attempt to walk you
through a typical day.
Following
Daybreak, either Rebecca or I will anchor the mini-newscasts (we call them
cut-ins) that air during Good Morning America, every 1/2 hour or
so.
Because GMA
runs from 7-9am, that keeps one of us busy for those 2 hours.
The other
anchor will write, produce and anchor a segment that's called "Around Arizona."
That airs during ABC15 News at 5pm.
It's
actually what I'm doing in addition to writing this blog right now. Just
call me Miss Multi-Tasker.
On a
typical day once 9am hits, we get a few minutes to sit and review the news
wires (little updates that are fed into our computers), then we go into a
news meeting from roughly 9 to 10am.
I'm
resisting the urge to write something like, "we saunter back to our desks
as Starbucks delivers coffee at 10am."
Not so
much... but there's great hot chocolate packets in our break room!
Normally at
10am - we all return to our desks and review emails, work on stories that you,
the viewer, will see airing in the future or we'll help set segments up for
Daybreak.
That can
eat up pretty much the rest of the day - and Rebecca and I are normally out the
door by around noon. Keep in mind - we get in way before the sunrise...
so while noon sounds like a half-day to most... it's already a full day of work
for us!
Really, our
responsibilities vary so much day to day. I guess that's why a lot of folks
choose news... because it's rarely the same day in, day out.
Meantime, I
just realized I have another meeting to run off to... then I've got to finish
writing Around Arizona! Ah, work. Gotta love it!
