Up in the Air?

First of all - I have to say thanks so much to all the readers who've commented on all the various blog entries!

It's great to see the feedback and comments!  On that note - I wanted to give a big "heads-up" to you readers, that some of your remarks are just too good not to share with the rest of the world.

So, from time to time, I (and probably Rebecca too) will be pulling little tidbits to read live on Daybreak.  I'm willing to bet Daybreak viewers will get a big kick out of some of the thoughts you, the readers, have shared about being late for work and the like.  I love 'em!  Keep those comments coming!

Also, since I'm on a "taking care of business" roll - I'm working to snap those pictures of the Daybreak crew.  I'll hand off the pictures tomorrow to Chris Kline our intrepid web guru, to post sometime early next week.

Now, down to the blog of the day.

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON WITH AIR TRAVEL?

I mean, talk about procrastination.  The FAA gave the airlines a notice 2 years ago to take care of these maintenance issues.  Now, all of a sudden, flights are grounded all across the nation while people's tempers are skyrocketing.  Yikes.

I do have to play fair, though.  The thing is, as someone who has to fly to get home to visit mom, I would much rather be safe in the air.

If that means grounding planes to take care of wiring concerns, etc, by all means, ground away.

It's the same with waiting in security lines at the airport.  I'd rather wait in line and let the TSA employees do their jobs, then be shuffled through and face an emergency at 30,000 feet.  I'm just saying.

If you want to see more on this story, tune into ABC 15 news this evening... as of now, our own reporter Jose Miguel is chasing this story.

Meantime, if you want some interesting reading on flights check out the links below:

Personally, I'm fed up!!  What about consumer rights?  Why is it that we as consumers have to continually pay for the enormous blunders of big business?
First it was "big tobacco".  Because of their shady business practices, tobacco consumers are now footing the bill for all of "big tobacco's" fines and court costs.

Next what was it... um shady home lenders/builders trying to capitalize on the booming housing market.  Raising home prices so out of reach that "normal" people couldn't afford one if they saved their entire paycheck for 10 years.  This allowed appartment complex's to start raising their prices astronomically as well, forcing the majority of renters to have to move across town or even out of town all together.

Then came, or I should say "continued" the neverending gas gouging.  I could go on for days about this, but I think the $140 billion profit made by oil companies while gas prices teeter at $4 a gallon speeks for itself.

Now it's airlines.  They have seen the rise in fuel prices and yes while their costs are increasing they know that "normal" citizens cannot afford to drive across country anymore and are forced to fly.  So they have been doing the obvious... raising prices, adding new fees for additional baggage.  And now this... they have been dodging this missile for many years and now that they are forced to comply who suffers???  Consumers are going to be forced once again to pay for big businesses mistakes and like I said before... I'M SICK OF IT!!!

And with that I'm off to see how much gas has risen since yesterday, and I'll probably be cursing at myself for not filling up earlier.

Like the morning show.    This blogging thing.....well...ok.  Can not figure out which is the latest from looking at the list to get to this page.  It says 7 views but see only one.  Getting to that page is a trip also... You guys think you are in the CIA or something.   Need link on the main page for not so literate people like me.
Oh well, forgot what I was writing so I'll sign off.

I'm in agreement with you Jenn and the comments made by Buddha, another blogger. We all need to fly from to time to time and we need to feel safe, so American Airlines made a decision. It could have been planned better, but it wasn't and who suffers, the consumers. All the airline had to do was provide extra assistance to the stranded travelers and DISCOUNTED fares to the people who had chosen their airline. Their gambling that we'll forget, but this time they gambled wrong. I'll never fly American Airlines again and neither will my 2 friends. Okay, so I don't get out enough.
