As we move into the warm, hot months of late spring and summer -- the creepy, crawlies are coming out of hiding.
We're seeing the emergence of snakes and SCORPIONS.
Last night, as I was climbing the stairs to my bedroom -- I had a VERY close encounter with a rather large scorpion that blended in quite well with my oatmeal-colored carpet.
Somehow, I managed to see the thing move. I'VE come to learn scorpions can crawl FAST -- and it was coming right at me.
Here's the deal, I don't do bugs. So, what's a girl to do -- but SCREAM!?!
I leaped over the the land-lobster and yelled for my daughter's help.
Being that she's 14 -- and has inherited my fear of insects -- she wasn't really much help at all.
Picture this....she and I are on opposite sides of the scorpion. It has stopped dead in it's tracks, among the comotion, and positioned its stinger above its body -- and we are both shouting orders about getting rid of the thing.
My daughter is screaming at me to SMASH it -- I'm screaming at her to get tupperware with a lid, so I can trap it.
In the end, hands trembling...I managed to coax the scorpion into the tupperware and dump it outside.
My daughter ran after it -- trying to smash it with a broom -- but, it got away.
No doubt -- to make its way back into my house.
This truly was a frightening situation for me. Rational or not -- scorpions terrify me.
Aside from getting my house sprayed every month, which I do, I don't know how to scorpion-proof my home.
I've seen black flashlights and scorpion spray, that claims to kill them on contact, at the local hardware store. But, does it work?
I plan to try it out and let you know.
In the meantime...yes, I know scorpions really can't do much harm to the average person. But, Ewwwwwwww!!!!
