I ask this question
regarding Disney star Miley Cyrus' recent photo shoot for Vanity Fair
magazine.
If you watched Daybreak
this morning, you saw the 15-year-old looking provocatively over her right
shoulder, her back nude..with her chest covered by sheet of fabric.
The picture is not
sexy...it's disturbing.
And, the answer to my
question -- where were her parents -- they were right there with her for the
photo shoot with famed photographer Annie Leibovitz.
In what appears to be
damage control -- ahead of the June issue, which hits stands next week -- Miley
is now saying she's embarrassed by the photos. She thought she was posing for
*artistic* portraits for Vanity Fair.
Leibovitz herself is also
apologizing -- saying the pictures have been misinterpreted.
She says the photo is
quote, "A simple, classic portrait that is very beautiful."
If Miley was at least 18,
Leibovitz could certainly make a case for that.
But, Miley is a 15-year-old
*GIRL* whose is being made to be sexually desirable to *MEN.*
In my opinion, it is quite
sad that adults are taking advantage of her youth and naivety -- all in the
name of MONEY.
The folks over at Disney
Channel, which airs Miley's show "Hannah Montana," feel the same way
-- issuing this statement: "Unfortunately, as the article suggests,
a situation was created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to
sell magazines."
Shame on the
photographer...shame on the magazine...but, mostly, shame on her PARENTS!
But, once again...here's
reality check for parents: Take a look at your teen's MySpace page, if they
have one. Unfortunately, some of the photos you'll find there -- whether
they're of your child or of his/her friend -- are even worse than Vanity
Fair's picture of Miley Cyrus.
Parents if we don't protect
our children -- no one else will.
