Something struck me as interesting today when the story about Suns Coach Mike D'Antoni broke.
(The rumor is he's not going to be back next season, just in case you haven't heard yet.)
That "something" would be the difference between the way women and men perceive things.
I was discussing this news with our assignment editor, Bryan. Here's the cliff note version of our discussion.
Jenn: "That's so sad about D'Antoni not coming back. He's such a class-act, great person. It's just too bad. I can't believe it...he's a great coach!"
Bryan: "Well, if your team isn't winning... you're not doing your job." End of story. Boom, done.
It wasn't said in a mean way - just very cut and dry. By the way, Bryan is one of the nicest people in the newsroom (no, he didn't slip me a $20 bill or free gas card to say that).
I don't want to make it sound like he's negative or anything! He's great! It was just a very blunt comment.
Now, I understand this is a big talker around town today. I understand a whole lot of you have your own opinions. I encourage you to sound off about them here on our website.
But the point I was getting at: Women look at things with emotion.
Guys - you seem more black and white, to-the-point.
Neither is right or wrong - just different. Thinking back on the conversation even now, a few hours after it happened, I have to chuckle to myself... especially because as we were closing out that conversation, Bryan said this:
"I'm much more of a baseball fan anyway... the D'Backs are doing awesome right now."
Anyway, the differences between guys and gals will always be there - but unfortunately for Phoenix, we could lose one heck of a coach.
