I still
remember my senior prom -- like it was yesterday.
I wore a
little white dress, my grandmother so lovingly made, and had a mass of curls
atop my head.
To be quite
honest, I looked a little like Judy Jetson that night.
But, it was
so much fun...my date, the corsage...the limo ride...dinner and dancing.
Prom is a
decades old tradition...a right of passage for many.
For others,
prom is completely out of reach.
Dresses can
cost hundreds...tuxes can be pricey to rent.
Then, when
you factor in the cost of the limo...dinner and tickets to the prom -- these
days, a couple can spend more than $1,000 on this one special night!
Here in the Valley, there's a special organization that helps at-risk and homeless teens
continue their education...find jobs and places to live.
Now, Tumbleweed Center for Youth Development is partnering
with ASU's Gamma Beta Phi to give these teens *A Night to Remember.*
That's the
theme of this year's prom.
It's being
held at the Arizona Science Center of May 17th.
The prom
committee has done a great job pulling things together.
ASU
students donated prom dresses for the girls -- so, they're set to go.
But, they
still need tuxes for the guys.
Right now
-- Tumbleweed is about $2,500 dollars away from it's goal.
This money
will pay for things like catering -- for the teens' dinner.
Thanks to contributions
from people, like you and me, about 150 Valley teens will get to have their
prom...at no cost to them.
Without
your help -- and the hard work of Tumbleweed and ASU's Gamma Beta Phi -- they
wouldn't have prom, as a high school memory, to look back on.
