If memory serves me correctly, I remember snow in Flagstaff,
eight years ago in May.
I was taking an accelerated summer school course at
NAU.
Having enjoyed several weeks of warm weather up until that
day, I felt it safe to put away my fleece, gloves, hats and down vests. Big mistake.
I woke up that particular morning to get ready for class...
and to my surprise... it wasn't sunshine that greeted me out of my apartment
window, but snowflakes!
I know it's the middle of May... and here in the Valley it
seems so strange to talk about snow in the high country when we're looking at
an extended forecast with triple digits in it, but let's not forget the
elevation of Flagstaff: 7,000 feet
or so.
That magical number means folks should never truly put away
their fleece...because mother nature can be very temperamental, the higher the
elevation. Still, technicalities like
elevation aside, it's so beautiful and downright fascinating to see (especially
for us desert-dwellers).
