Daybreak Daily

'Zip It and Drive'

I was sitting here at my desk - and got a phone call from Tony Arranaga.

His mother just called him to say that as of July 1st, drivers will no longer be allowed to talk on their hand-held cell phones.
She lives in California, just so you know.

If that happened, what would you think?

It's a story I think we'll be working on in some form or another for Daybreak, so sound off on this now.

Here's a newspaper article for more

IMHO laws such as this are ridiculous waste of taxpayer's money and lawmaker's time.  Just because some people are more easily distracted than others does not mean we need to create laws to micro-manage society as a whole.

I mean, what's next?  The radio is definitely more of a distraction, so why not ban the use of radios when the car is in motion?  What about smoking while driving?  What about drinking a soda or water while driving? What about the adjustment of the air-conditioning, windshield wipers, mirrors etc...?  And for parents with young children, should the child or the parent be fined when the kids are causing a noise disturbance in the backseat?

Another law I despise iis seat-belts.  I know they save lives and I make sure my children are always buckled properly, but personally it makes me claustrophobic.  If adults have the choice of whether or not to wear helmets on motorcycles why is it I can be fined for making the choice not to wear my seatbelt, especially when forcing me to wear one would affect my driving?

And I have said before, why is it our lawmakers continue to find time for needless laws such as these, but yet when it comes to important matters such as border control, gas prices, health care, unemployment, the homeless, etc, our "grand" lawmakers take their sweet o'l time?

Buddha needs therapy. I'm sorry but I totally disagree with Buddha. I think the masses agree that seat belts save lives. If you are not fastened in you'll become a missle and kill others in the car. There's a video on you tube showing someone falling asleep at the wheel and tumbling about like a rag doll and he was killed.
The phones distract us while driving. However the hands free sets don't make it better, but at least you have both hands on the wheel while your screaming. More people are killed on our highways then in Iraq, so if lawmakers think they can save lives I'm all for it.
