Airborne illness

I'm not a doctor, nor do I profess to be any sort of medical professional... but our polluted air seems to be wearing on my health.  There's really no other explanation! How about yours?  How are you feeling?
Seriously... I don't have asthma, I don't typically suffer from hay fever this late in the year... and yet, my throat is killing me and I feel so, well, wheezy...it's as though there's a little feathery creature running through my bronchial tubes - causing the most inconvenient tickle.  It's tough to anchor like that.
I thought I might have strep earlier in the week - that's how badly my throat hurt.  Nope.  That test came back negative.  But, one real medical professional did tell me she's been seeing quite a number of people coming through her doors with various respiratory issues and illness... and all they can do is blame pollution.
That's quite alarming.  If it's this bad now, what's to come in 5 years?  I don't want to sound like a fatalist here - let's hope it actually gets better in 5 years.  I just have to wonder, what are the long-term effects of poor air quality?  Will we all be toting the latest in oxygen tank fashion down the road?  I can see it now - instead of stilettos rising to fame on shows like "Sex and the City" we'll be seeing an SJP character type striving to have the latest in O2 couture.
I just hope things turn around.  I hope we can all figure out a way to clear the air.  For my lungs' and throat sake.  For yours too!  Besides, I can't afford any of the fashions modeled by SJP anyway.

I have to echo your comments, Jenn.  My throat feels like someone is dangling a dry leaf into it.  The coughing gets so intense I start sneezing.  I have wondered if it might be a side affect from some of the medications I take, and while that might be part of it, I'm sure the pollution is multiplying the affect.  This is a problem for me, because like you, I do a lot of public speaking.  I give public tours 3 days/week, sometimes as many as 3 one hour tours a day back to back.  I keep hoping a couple of days of rain (umm, Kaley) will help, but I think we all know it would only be a temporary respite.

Hope your throat gets better as well as everyone else.  We would hate to miss out morning ABC15 fix...
