Since retirement I do a lot of volunteering and the price of gas has forced me to cut back from volunteering 4-5 days/week to a maximum of 3. On a fixed income I can't afford to do more. Unfortunately a lot of businesses depend on their volunteers and if we can't afford to drive to volunteer, that is going to change.

I, too, went to visit family in Goodyear over the Memorial Day weekend. In great anticipation, I took Friday off from work and drove the 2 hours to my brother's house, hitting some heavy spots of rain on the way. The traffic seemed lighter than I had noticed before. But I really noticed the difference heading westbound on I-10 going home. Traffic was very light, and the sun shone brightly. I think the gas prices have made a big impact on everyone's travel plans. I probably wouldn't have gone if it hadn't been for my son's family flying in from Spokane, Washington. I couldn't miss that no matter what the price of gas!

Gas prices are indeed skyrocketing, due to an increase in demand spurred by a record growth internationally. India is stepping up output and production, which is great, as it will modernize their country. But now for the bad news: Due to a Federal Bill, gas will be taxed at an even higher rate than before. Coupled with the fact that we can't drill in several locations where oil is located which would increase the supply, help meet the higher demand, and LOWER THE PRICE, gas prices will rise. If you want to help keep prices lower at the pump, however, learn more and sign the petition put out by Freedom Works at Gas Price Protest:
